About the English Language Support Office
The mission of the English Language Support Office (ELSO) is to offer writing and speaking support to international graduate students that meets the needs of students in diverse programs, from diverse linguistic backgrounds, and at diverse points in their graduate careers.
We understand that international graduate students arrive at Cornell with years of English language education, writing and speaking experience, and experience navigating diverse rhetorical situations. Ours goal are to build on and add to this wealth of knowledge, empowering international graduate students to be successful with the many writing and speaking tasks of graduate school.
We also understand that graduate students have many pressures on their time. While we do believe that taking the time to focus on writing and speaking skills will ultimately allow graduate students to be more efficient when tackling the writing and speaking tasks they face, ELSO offers an array of support services that fit a variety of schedules:
