On August 17, as the first day of classes loomed, a small group of Cornell faculty met with Knight Institute staff to discuss plans for their Fall First Year Writing Seminars. Throughout the year, the Knight Institute supports faculty who teach writing. We also organize workshops several times a year, including the intensive four-day Faculty Seminar in Writing Instruction held every June. The August pre-semester workshop brought together some veteran writing teachers and some newcomers.
Two attendees were Faculty Seminar alumni who came back for a refresher. One wrote, “This event reminded me how great the summer seminar was. If anything could be improved, it would be having more time for all parts of the discussion.” Other expressed interest in having more workshops throughout the year.
Faculty who are interested in working with Knight Institute staff on matters related to the teaching of writing should contact us. Even if there is nothing scheduled that addresses your particular need, chances are, we will be able to do something to help.
