Cornell Writing Centers

The Cornell Writing Centers offer free, one-on-one writing tutoring for all Cornell students. This semester, tutoring begins on Tuesday, September 4! Students can either simply walk-in or schedule an appointment online via https://cornell.mywconline.net/

Writing Centers tutors are trained undergraduate and graduate students from across the disciplines who can work with you to: 

• Understand what an assignment is asking for in terms of writing;
• Brainstorm ideas for getting started on a new assignment;
• Develop stronger ideas, arguments, claims, and source-use in essay drafts;
• Read drafts in order to locate writing issues and develop strategies for revision;
• Incorporate sources and evidence responsibly and effectively;
• Consider questions of depth, analysis, organization, audience expectation, paragraph development, and style;
• Identify patterns of error in grammar or usage in order to develop strategies for line-editing.

Cornell provides one-on-one tutoring for international and domestic graduate students, professional students, and postdocs through the Graduate Writing Service and English Language Support Office (ELSO) Tutoring Services.

Graduate Writing Services (GWS)

• Tutoring on writing projects, presentations, and teaching materials available to all graduate students, professional students, post-docs, and staff

ELSO Tutoring Services

• ELSO offers tutoring for any type of writing and academic presenting. ELSO also offers a separate service for pronunciation. Both services are available to all international graduate students, professional students, and post-docs.

• Writing & Presenting Tutoring starts August 28. The start date for Pronunciation Tutoring will be determined soon.
