Hello FWS Instructors and Graduate Students!
I hope your Fall 2024 semester is off to a successful start! To support your ongoing research and instruction work, the library is offering a new orientation workshop focused on engaging students with our archival and special collections. Here are the details:
What: Bringing Archives & Collections to your FWS!
When: Thursday, September 5th, 4:30pm
Where: Rare Manuscripts & Collections Classroom (Level 2b of Carl A. Kroch Library—you can enter through the main entrance of Olin Library, walk straight ahead to enter Kroch, and take the steps or elevator down to the bottom level)
Event Description: If you’re interested in learning more about archival research or bringing classes into special collections as part of your course but don’t know where to start, this 1 hour workshop will show you the basics. We’ll discuss the kinds of materials we collect at both Cornell repositories - the Kheel Center and Rare and Manuscript Collections-and walk you through how to find and request archival material using the library catalog. We’ll also cover Cornell’s digital collections and sources of other kinds of digitized archival materials. Finally, you’ll learn about the kind of active learning instruction sessions we offer, and how/when to make an instruction session request. Whether you're teaching an FWS this year, planning for one in the future, or are a grad student interested in what the Cornell archives have to offer, this workshop is for you! We hope to see you there!
Thank you and have a great first week of fall semester!
Best,
Hannah
