The KNIGHTLYnews is an online forum where FWS instructors and other teachers of writing can swap and share ideas for best classroom practice. Weekly posts are designed to help teachers develop lesson plans and writing assignments, and respond to classroom challenges by introducing new teaching tools and sharing emerging pedagogical ideas. Posts also direct readers to program and campus resources that support teaching and learning, and provide opportunities for peer collaboration and mentorship. #teachlikeabear
In just a few weeks, my colleagues and I will begin reviewing submissions for our many First-Year Writing Seminar prizes and awards. Committee members are eager to read your and your FWS student submissions and to dwell in the creative, generous, and persistent choices you and students made each and every day of the semester to teach each other and learn together.
To be sure, selected essays, writing assignments, lesson plans, and portfolios showcase some of the most exceptional performances of the semester, but they also make visible the brave learning and brave teaching seen widely across First-Year Writing Seminars, those represented in these submission pools and well beyond.
Your and your students’ bold efforts and engagements define our writing program, and we celebrate you. Congratulations to all!
